Appropriated from skate terminology, Switch stance was a project that saw that elite art crowd from Hamburg attend an outdoor vernissage in the in the expectation of a performance. This non-committal display of statements drawn from left-wing protests were viewed by a confused group left out in the cold whilst a secret 4-star brunch took place in a social centre for the homeless.
Conflating and exaggerating aspects of artistic production and display, this installation served as a sharp reminder of the contradictions within art consumption. We want a fresh, challenging experience without leaving our so-called comfort zone. This dichotomous scenario requires rethinking when global art tourism becomes an unsustainable future.
