On invitation to present a project or artwork as part of a festival in the Wedding district of Berlin, The Wa conceived of a piece that struck at the intention of the festival itself. In an attempt at gentrification of one of the last bastions of working class Berlin, the Wedding Dress festival invited artists, designers and other creatives to intervene in selected spaces. The location provided for The Wa was a former working menÕs bar that had been nicotine stained for decades. Needless to say, the cleansing of the bar with elbow grease, soap and paint, was in an effort to reflect on the desired cleansing effect of the Wedding Dress festival, to Ôclean upÕ the area. It is the visual potency of the message that plays with the problematics of gentrification.
